Description
Just a few kilometers from Granada, the river Monachil has sculpted a living rock canyon over centuries where the trail winds between waterfalls, natural pools, caves, and hanging bridges that sway over the void. Los Cahorros de Monachil is one of the most valued hiking routes in Andalusia and one of the few that combines high mountain scenery with adventure elements less than half an hour from the city center.
Our excursion includes transportation from the center of Granada, an expert mountain guide throughout the journey, and professional photographs taken by the guide along the route. The trail covers 6.5 kilometers with a 250-meter elevation gain on an easy difficulty path that runs between the canyon walls, with sections where the rock blocks the way and you have to crouch to advance. The meltwater from Sierra Nevada feeds a succession of pools and waterfalls carved directly into the stone along the route.
What you will see
- Hanging bridges: The most characteristic element of Los Cahorros, suspended over the canyon with the Monachil river visible at the bottom and rock walls on both sides.
- Waterfalls and natural pools: A succession of pools and waterfalls formed by the meltwater from Sierra Nevada, carved directly into the rock of the canyon.
- Caves and narrow tunnels: Sections of the trail where the rock blocks the way and forces you to crouch to advance, the most memorable adventure element of the route.
- Panoramas of the canyon: Views over the Sierra Nevada National Park from different points along the route, with the vertical walls of the canyon as a permanent frame.
- Professional photos included: The guide carries a professional camera and captures the best moments of the journey. The images are delivered at no additional cost.
